Acoustic research is a large subject. Violin makers are now using machines and software that were unavailable in previous times to analyze instruments as we carve them. To a lot of makers, the computer has become as much of an indispensable tool as the finger plane or the chisel. Acoustic software is a valuable tool, but I always keep in mind the fact that the violin makers of the past made their legendary works without the aid of these fascinating tools.
